In August of this year a major publishing company in China (Publishing Company China) signed a major deal with company Zhonghua Books to create a new digital platform website (pub2web powered) to house its collection of classical Chinese artwork, and texts.
This all new publishing platform and mangement system is being created for the sole purpose of housing this collection of works which the publishing company has been building since its founding in 1912.
The website will be open to access globally and it will be heavily modified to be able to display vertical Chinese text, which up to now has been considered a digital publishing challenge. It will also include notes and supplementary material contributed by experts in the field for each piece. Also, all the texts shall be connected together, to make it easier to study periods in time. This makes it easier for researchers who used to have to go digging for these works in many different places before.
This deal is important not only because it gives people a global access to these rare and valuable ancient texts, for both study and admiration, but it also further tests the boundaries of our innovation to incorporate different types of text into a media outlet.
