Publishers Weekly published an article featuring Lee Goldberg and Joel Goldman, two independent mystery writers and self-publishers, that have come together in a partnership with Amazon to start Brash Books, a publishing endeavor focused on crime novels. Both writers feel a strong connection to Amazon publishing, as they have had more success in selling books via self-publishing means, than they did with the original publishers.
Goldberg and Goldman have been publishing their backlists for years as well as buying rights to authors passed, and working with current day authors to rework and publish them. Although Amazon has given them great promotional deals for exclusively signing Brash Books with them, the two publishers are not solely relying on Amazon marketing to draw attention to their classic and award-winning crime novels.
The first novel that Brash Books will publish, and the face of the new endeavor, is a new crime novel by Tom Kakonis, called Treasure Coast. Even though they are portraying their new company with a new novel production, the two writers/publishers have said that they will be focusing primarily on backlist novels. Other featured authors contributing to Brash Books are Bob Forward, Barbara Neely, Mark Smith and Jack Lynch to name a few. Both Goldberg and Goldman are confident in their abilities as publishers to get these authors and titles the recognition that they deserve.
